Apple's New Parental Controls Are the Best Yet. Here Is What They Still Do Not Cover
On 14 September 2026, Apple shipped the most substantial rework of its parental controls in the history of the iPhone. iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 introduced Ask to Browse, extended Communication Safety to violent imagery, replaced a single blanket screen-time limit with age-tailored Time Allowances, added approval for new contacts, and rebuilt the Screen Time interface around what a parent actually needs to see.
These are genuine improvements, and some of them close loopholes that parents have been complaining about for the better part of a decade. It is worth saying that plainly before saying anything critical, because the criticism that follows is not that Apple did too little. It is that a set of controls this good invites a dangerous assumption: that the problem is now handled.
